Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteer - Betty Ervine

Volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House for many years now, Betty Ervine has been a dedicated volunteer, always ready to offer a helping hand and ready to step in at the last minute. We asked Betty a few questions to find out a little more about her and why she volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House.

Tell us a little about your background.

I am retired from the Livonia Public School System in Michigan and from the United States Air Force Reserve. While with the school system I taught, then worked in public relations for the Air Force Reserve.

What brought you to Ronald McDonald House Charities?

Phil Manahan spoke to my sorority about the opening of the House on the campus of Florida Hospital before it was finished. My brother and sister-in-law were volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Grand Rapids, as they had lost a child earlier in life, and I was also interested in helping.

What do you do while volunteering?

I perform many different tasks - I work at the front desk, clean up the kitchen, stock rooms, offer tours of the house and do general volunteer work.

What do you like about volunteering at the House and what is the most rewarding?

The staff, the atmosphere and the residents are what make the House such a wonderful place. Being able to help others in a mission that seems to be filling such a great community need is very rewarding.

Thank you for helping us help families of children who are ill and receiving medical treatment at area hospitals and medical facilities.
